Top 10 Summer 2014 Fashion Tips

1. Candy colours

Fashionistas are all in agreement that sugary sweet pastel colors are where it’s at this summer, notably lilac, pink and mint. Tones should be subtle and sophisticated. It’s likely that these sherbet shades will make it through to out autumn wardrobes too.

2. City Bermuda shorts

This year’s shorts are dressier and office-appropriate. Sitting on the knee or slightly above, they have a more tailored look and should be worn with strappy heels, flat sandals or basic pumps.

3. Floral prints

Prints are all about flowers this year! From subtle prints and retro 3D flowers to bold statements, blooming flowers and green grasses can be seen all over the catwalk this season.

4. Metallic fabrics

Shiny and iridescent clothing and gold and bronze accessories have been seen on the S/S catwalks this year. Holographic fabric through to satin and silk is likely to be a big fashion hit.

5. Sporty logos and statement slogans

Graphic prints, especially those with words printed or embroidered over the top, are a major summer trend. Bringing the 1990s back again, slogan tees and sweats are back with a vengeance.

6. Pleated skirts

Pleats, especially knife pleats, are big news this year. The pleats give you more swing for your buck! Pleats aren’t just a 2014 trend though – they’re a true fashion classic and a wardrobe statement which can add volume and sophistication.

7. Dropped waists

The dropped wait dress and skirt has seen a resurgence on the S/S 2014 catwalks. Reminiscent of the 1920s, the dropped waist is not just for flappers but has been given a very modern twist. Hemlines are higher, showing off the legs, which can help to give the allusion of height.

8. Sheer and see-through layering

Summer 2014 sees a sophisticated approach to showing skin, using soft and sheer fabrics for anything from shirts, skirts and trousers. Keep it subtle by wearing sheer panels and semi-transparent layering.

9. Tea length skirts

Sitting somewhere in-between midi and maxi length, this hemline is the in thing for skirts this summer. This more sophisticated look can be teamed with heels or flats and a tummy-bearing cropped top will help to offset the length.

10. Wide-leg trousers and mid-length culottes

Culottes are back in a big way for summer 2014! Wear them billowy and cropped to mid-calf length to give the allusion of a skirt and with a heel to elongate your silhouette.
